On Saturday, a group of third, fourth and fifth grade girls, as well as several “Power Women” (moms, aunts, grandparents, etc.) had the privilege of attending the GiRL Power Event at Angelo State University, organized by the Laura Bush Institute. It was an afternoon of fun, filled with great information about V.A.L.U.E., and reinforcing self-worth in these young ladies! They got to participate in some awesome physics demonstrations by the ASU physics club. They got to hear from a local panel of women in a variety of career clusters, including the winner of the Food Network Holiday Cookie Challenge, a police officer, an artist, a nurse and a soccer athlete. They were engaged, encouraged and enriched! And the parents were given tools to take care of themselves and combat “Depleted Mom Syndrome”. This was then followed by a visit with the reigning Miss Texas, who had a message for the girls. It was such a fantastic time! Thank you to all the wonderful speakers and thank you to the staff that came along to support our Blizzards!

Exciting announcement: @LearningUNDFTD is bringing a one-of-a-kind learning experience. We are one of 30 Texas schools to receive the Texas Mobile STEM Lab this school year, right to our own parking lot! This very own "magic school bus" will help our students to learn about all the interesting STEM careers available! They will be joining us on January 9th, 10th and 11th with a fun family night available the 11th! We are thrilled for this opportunity and joining together with our WISD families to learn!
