The Texas Education Agency (TEA) released district accountability ratings on Monday and Winters ISD is at the top, receiving an “A” rating and 9 distinction designations! This was an amazing accomplishment achieved by students and staff after coming out of quarantine and addressing the gaps in learning brought on after school closed in the spring of 2020. The last accountability rating received from TEA was in 2019, when WISD received a “B” rating, with 3 distinction designations. Here are the 2022 scores from each campus: Winters Elementary - “A”, 90 overall score; Winters Junior High - “B”, 86 overall score; Winters High School – “B”, 86 overall score, and WISD – “A”, with a 90 overall score. Every score is an improvement from 2019’s results, with the greatest gains taking place in our junior high. In 2019 Winters Junior High was placed on the improvement required (IR) designation list from TEA for scoring a “F”, and a 55 overall score. There were extreme gains achieved in all categories, from 2019’s “F” junior high campus rating to 2022’s “B” campus rating. If you would like to see the more detailed breakdowns of how WISD did at the campus and district levels, you may view at www.txschools.gov. We still have room to grow and will continue to work hard to make WISD one of the best small schools in west Texas. Congratulations to all students and staff of WISD for putting the “WIN” back in Winters! #whywinterstx

🌪MEET THE BLIZZARDS🌪 tomorrow at 6pm at Blizzard Stadium! We can’t wait to see you there!

Parents, WISD was voluntarily placed into “Secure” mode at approximately 11:25 AM this morning. Secure means that we had all students locked inside of our buildings until we received word from Police Chief Guyer that it was okay for students and staff of WISD to resume normal activities. Out of an abundance of caution we went into this measure to ensure the safety of everyone when WISD officials received word that someone had been shot towards Novice. Students were secured in our buildings for about 15 minutes, until the all clear was received from our local law enforcement. Students and staff were not in danger, we were just being cautious. If you should have any further questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact Sean Leamon at 325-754-5574.
We hope that everyone has a great weekend!
